Flag Day

June 14, 2019

On Flag Day, we celebrate the adoption of the Stars and Stripes that serves as a symbol of hope, freedom and opportunity our great country offers. The United States officially adopted the American Flag on June 14, 1777. Proclamations to observe of Flag Day were issued by both President Woodrow Wilson, in 1916, and President Calvin Coolidge, in 1927. The designation of Flag Day became official in 1949 when President Harry Truman signed the joint resolution approved by U.S. Congress.

Today, the U.S. Army also celebrates its birthday!
