Felix Ortiz, a West High School student, pulled over at a crash on the 600 north on-ramp in Salt Lake City, where a car had flipped over on Tuesday, February 19.
Approaching the car before first responders arrived, Ortiz saw there was a man inside. Without hesitation, checked for a pulse. Not finding one, he performed CPR – the first time he had ever done so on a person. He was able to get the man breathing and he was taken to the hospital.
Sen. Luz Escamilla presented a citation to honor Felix Ortiz for his heroic actions for initiated CPR on the victim at the scene of a car crash.
