Citation Honoring Officer Nathan Lyday

Officer Nathan Lyday, the “son of Ogden”, is a hometown hero, honored and loved by all those who knew him.  

Nate grew up in Ogden where he attended Taylor Elementary, Mound Fort Junior High, and Ogden High School.  His Ogden education did not stop there.  He attended Weber State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Summa Cum Lauda in 2018. 

For six years, while in high school and through college, Nate worked at Fresh Market in Ogden, where he was known and loved by the community.  Everyone loved Nate’s personality and infectious smile.  

In 2015, Nate married his sweetheart, Ashley in Brigham City, Utah.

Nate fulfilled his lifelong dream by joining the Ogden City Police Department where he was sworn in as a police officer on May 28, 2019.  Nate had a true passion and love for police work, taking pride in serving the city he grew up in.  He was devoted to his community, making the ultimate sacrifice by laying down his life in the protection of others.  

Nate was a true guardian who quintessentially demonstrated that “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”  Nate exemplified this solemn honor of being a police officer and he will never be forgotten.  May 28, 2020 will remain a date of significance and honor for the city of Ogden and the state of Utah.

In recognition of the exemplary life of a hero, today the Utah Senate and House of Representatives pay tribute to Officer Nathan Lyday.
