Utah Ranks No. 1 Best State Overall by U.S. News and World Report

Utah has been named the No. 1 best state overall for 2023 by U.S. News and World Report. The study analyzed more than 70 metrics in eight categories: health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, natural environment, and crime and corrections. Utah’s success was showcased as it measured in the top 15 in six of the eight categories, with No. 1 in economy and fiscal stability. 

“Our state’s persistent focus on strengthening our economy and empowering citizens to reach their greatest potential is the reason Utah ranked the best state overall,” said President J. Stuart Adams. “Utah’s quick economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pay dividends as we surpass the nation in stability and growth. I am excited our state was named No. 1 and look forward to maintaining the top spot for years to come.”

​​Utah’s emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and education, as well as its creation of diverse industries, has resulted in a robust economy with increased opportunities for Utahns.

Utah ranking No. 1 best state overall from U.S. News and World Report comes on the heels of receiving the top spot for best economic outlook for the 16th year in a row in Rich States, Poor States: ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index.
