Ensuring Reliable, Safe and Affordable Around-the-Clock Energy
Utah’s future is bright, but keeping the lights on—and ensuring our state remains a leader in innovation and economic growth—requires bold action. By 2050, we must at least triple our energy production to meet the growing demands of artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, advanced manufacturing and more.
Ensuring energy remains reliable and affordable is crucial to sustaining Utah’s high quality of life and economic strength. That’s why we’re advancing an all-of-the-above strategy—leveraging geothermal, natural gas, coal and small modular nuclear reactors—to power our future while keeping costs low.
Utah already boasts the nation’s most affordable electricity, and we are committed to keeping it that way. Energy powers every aspect of daily life, from transportation to technology, and a strong, independent energy supply ensures stability for families and businesses alike. With abundant resources and emerging technologies, Utah is well-positioned to lead the nation in energy innovation and security.
2025 Legislation Highlights
- H.B. 249 Nuclear Power Amendments establishes the Utah Energy Council, Energy Development Zones and the Nuclear Energy Consortium to drive energy innovation. These initiatives will support new energy projects, promote nuclear collaborations, develop workforce programs and advance research, ensuring Utah’s access to reliable and affordable power.
- S.B. 132 Electric Utility Amendments allows large energy consumers (100+ megawatts) to enter flexible contracts with utilities or alternative providers. This ensures growing energy demands are met without impacting existing ratepayers while supporting emerging technologies like AI and promoting a more competitive, efficient energy market.
